MUFFINS!!!
Yay!! Cole bought me a muffin for breakfast!! Finally, rewards for going to class at 8 am on a Monday. Seriously tho, I got up for class today, and checked THREE different clocks to make sure it actually WAS 7:30 am. It just seemed too dark, and driving to school the sun was JUST starting to rise behind the mountains... wtf?!?! Is it LEGAL to have class before sunrise? If it is, it shouldn't be...
So Saturday, I had my first "formal" farrier lesson... man did that suck. Kantana pulled one of his shoes, so I needed to take the other one off, AND he needed a trim. Problem: My mom has very badly sprained her knee. SO! I get started on my own. Now my first mistake is I forgot to file the nails down where the stick out of the hoof wall. Now these shoes shoulda been off at LEAST 2 weeks ago, which is a long time considering shoes are generally redone every 6-8 weeks. So I figured, one's already gone, the other should come easily. But no. My mom puts these shoes on so freaking well (and I shoulda realized this since the other shoe fell off but took a piece of his hoof with it) that no matter how hard I pull its not coming. BLAH! At this point I should also mention I am in running shoes, and wearing essentially spandex pants (not quite but I can't place the name of the material at the mo, so you get the idea) and I'm not wearing gloves. So his leg is bruising mine, and the nippers used to remove shoes are blistering my hand. So finally my mom limps out to laugh at me up close instead of from a distance, so I run off to get the file and post. I turn my back for one second to put on the farrier chaps to prevent further bruising, and my mothers already got Kantana's foot on the post and she's proceeding to file... WTF?!?!? She can hardly walk she shouldn't be doing farrier work. So I take over... kinda get the nails filed down, shoe is off, hurray. Then mom starts instructing me on using the hoof knife to take off excess sole, and then somehow SHE"S got his foot and she's doing the clipping. How it occurred, I'm still not certain, so I RE takeover, and she instructs me on filing his foot level, how to hold his foot between my legs properly all these technical things. We throw his foot back on the post to file the outer wall for angles (which my mom does) and then that foots down, one to go. So I pick up the other foot, and essentially I hold the foot, and my mom does the farrier work. Have I mentioned Kantana is now standing on his own in the middle of the yard at this point? With 2 females, both slightly crippled by now, hovering over his foot... he is SUCH a good pony. It had to have looked ridiculous tho... how many blonds does it take to shoe a horse? 2 one to do the farrier work, the other to hold his foot b/c they cant multitask. Anyways... so we got the other foot done, and I rode Apollo... plus I did Pilate's in the morning. Needless to say two days later I'm still bruised and sore from the days events.
Randomness... has anyone ever noticed how often we use the word "to(o)"? Its quite a substantial number.
In other events I went and saw a standup comedian with Melissa and Tabatha at the Ramada last night. Was tres funny. We were sitting with a couple Mel and Tabatha believed to be on a first date. The guy was at least 50. It was so cute. Also saw Robbie there, he looked so cute in his little bow tie, lol.
And now I dare say it is time for a nap.
